Biodiversity

How can we preserve biodiversity and find nature-inclusive solutions to societal challenges?

Scientists study how natural ecosystems function and which processes sustain biodiversity or put it under pressure. In Leiden, this research is often conducted using a quantitative approach. Mathematical models, remote sensing tools and simulations help us to better understand, monitor and protect nature.

This knowledge forms the basis for practical applications. From nature-inclusive horticulture to challenges in agriculture and urban development: our research translates fundamental insights into solutions that contribute to the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.

Living lab
