Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Law

The 'juridica' or legal subjects have a particular field of law as a focus for research, such as civil law, constitutional law, criminal law and public international law.

The Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Law studies law from an external perspective (e.g. that of philosophy, sociology etc.). This makes legal science an 'interdisciplinary' matter.

Bastiaan Rijpkema has held the position of Academic Director of the Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Law from 1 September 2024. Afshin Ellian is the Deputy Academic Director.
