Institute for Philosophy
The members of the Institute for Philosophy study all aspects of philosophy. Our researchers combine historical and systematic approaches to philosophical inquiry, engaging with topics such as ethics, logic, epistemology and political philosophy. Through close collaboration within Leiden University and with international partners, we connect classical traditions with contemporary debates in philosophy, science and society.
The research at the Institute is organised into five research centres: Theoretical Philosophy, Practical Philosophy, Continental Philosophy, Comparative Philosophy, and History of Philosophy. Together they represent the institute’s full intellectual breadth, connecting historical and systematic perspectives and fostering collaboration across all areas of philosophical inquiry.
