The integrity and reliability of academic research are of fundamental importance to the university.
Academic integrity is a cornerstone of responsible research and essential to the credibility of science. At Leiden University, we are committed to ensuring that all research is conducted in a scrupulous, fair, verifiable, impartial, and independent manner.
Scientific Conduct Course (mandatory)
To help you navigate the ethical dimensions of academic research, all PhD candidates are required to complete the Scientific Conduct for PhDs course will give attention to the grey area and your role as an individual scientist to prevent misconduct. This course explores the grey areas of research integrity and your role in preventing misconduct, equipping you with the tools to act responsibly as an independent researcher.
Code of Conduct
Leiden University adheres to the principles outlined in the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (2018), developed by Universities of the Netherlands. This code provides a framework for good research practices and outlines standards for integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Support and Procedures
If you have concerns about academic integrity or wish to discuss a sensitive issue, you can contact the university’s Confidential Adviser on Academic Integrity. Additionally, the Committee on Scientific Integrity handles formal complaints and investigations related to breaches of academic integrity.
