About the course 'Terrorism and Counterterrorism'

This second-year course examines the complex phenomenon of terrorism and counterterrorism, which continues to dominate political agendas worldwide. It has two main objectives: to provide students with an in-depth introduction to the key aspects of 20th and 21st century terrorism, and to familiarise them with the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary research in this field. Students explore topics such as the historical development of modern terrorism, the various causes of political violence, and the diverse approaches to studying these issues. By analysing conceptual debates and historical cases, participants learn to critically assess contemporary discussions on terrorism and counterterrorism. Read more
