Vote for Discoverer of the Year 2017
Suzan Verberne is nominated by the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) to be granted the C.J. Kok Public Award, also known as the award for the ‘Discoverer of the Year’.
Verberne is researcher on the edge of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR). Her current research involves text mining applications for a variety of target domains and she is particularly interested in information search in complex domains. Verberne is Assistant Professor at LIACS and affiliated with the Data Science Research Programme.
Current projects
Currently, she is supervising projects on text mining and information retrieval in the legal domain, the archaeological domain, the policy-making domain, from patient records of GPs and physiotherapists, from user-generated content in online patient communities (discussion forums), and in the context of fake news detection.
Maakte Rembrandt lachende selfies?
Verberne recently gave a lecture (in Dutch) for the general public at the 'Universiteit van Nederland' about RemBench, a system she built for art historians to search for information about the painter Rembrandt van Rijn.
