Translationele Neuro Oncologie
De vooruitzichten voor patiënten met een kwaadaardige hersentumor zijn helaas vaak nog erg somber. Er is dringend behoefte aan nieuwe strategieen voor behandeling en diagnose.
De tanslationele Neuro Oncologie heeft als doel nieuwe behandel en diagnostische strategieen te ontwikkelen en naar de patient te brengen om zo de vooruitzichten voor mensen met een hersentumor te verbeteren.
Wetenschappelijke carrière
Marike Broekman heeft haar opleidingen Geneeskunde en Rechten gevolgd aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Haar promotieonderzoek voerde zij uit in Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, waarop zij aan de Universiteit van Utrecht promoveerde. De titel van haar proefschrift (2006) luidt: ‘AAV vectors as gene delivery vehicles in the central nervous system’. Vervolgens specialiseerde zij zich tot neurochirurg in het Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht en deed zij een post-doctoraal fellowship aan Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Na haar specialisatie tot neurochirurg werkte zij als staflid in het Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht en als visiting professor aan Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Sinds 2018 is zij werkzaam als neurochirurg in Haaglanden Medisch Centrum/ Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum.
Broekman zit in de board van de European Association for Neurosurgical Societies.
Zij is de voorzitter van de wetenschappelijke raad van Kika en vice-voorzitter van de Raad Medische Wetenschappen van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Academie voor Wetenschappen.
Broekman zit in de redactieraad van Acta Neurochirurgica en Brain and Spine.
