Lisa Cheng is hoogleraar Algemene Taalkunde aan het Leiden University Centre for Linguistics. Haar onderzoeksinteresses richten zich op vergelijkende syntaxis en de interacties tussen syntaxis en semantiek, syntaxis en prosodie, evenals syntaxis en verwerking. Ze is medeoprichter van het Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition (LIBC). Sinds 2017 is ze lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW).
