I-Fan is in april 2023 begonnen als promovendus aan de Universiteit Leiden. Hij wordt begeleid door Dr. Suzan Verberne en Dr. Faegheh Hasibi.
Zijn onderzoek is onderdeel van het LESSEN project, waarin wordt samengewerkt met industriële stakeholders zoals Albert Heijn, Bol.com en KPN om chat-gebaseerde conversational agents te ontwikkelen. Zijn focus ligt op het oplossen van domeinspecifieke uitdagingen bij het ontwikkelen van conversational agents.
