Anar Ahmadov (PhD, London School of Economics) is breed opgeleid in politieke economie, sociologie, ontwikkelingsstudies, en overheidsbeleid. Voordat hij naar Leiden kwam, heeft hij onderzoeks- en onderwijsposities bekleed aan Princeton University, Oxford University, en de London School of Economics (LSE). Gedurende meer dan vijftien jaar heeft hij ook gewerkt als consultant, analist en leidinggevende in internationale ontwikkeling. Zijn huidige onderzoeksinteresses liggen bij politiek-economische ongelijkheid, het beheer van natuurlijke hulpbronnen, politiek gedrag van migranten en de verspreiding van politieke en economische ideeën. Hij ontving meer dan twintig subsidies en fellowships, waaronder de meest recente NWO Vidi-subsidie (800.000 euro) en NIAS-KNAW individual fellowship.
