Wout Broekema is an Assistant Professor of Crisis Governance at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University.

He is affiliated with the Leiden University Crisis Research Centre (CRC), which was established in 1989, making it one of the oldest crisis research centers in Europe. Wout Broekema conducts research into how crisis management processes can be organized effectively. His main expertise concerns the operation of organizational learning processes in response to crises, on which he obtained his PhD in 2018. Broekema was involved in several reputable national and international research projects. His work has been published in leading public administration and crisis management journals, such as Public Administration and Safety Science. He teaches both in the bachelor Security Studies and the Crisis and Security Management master curriculum.
