Dr. Maria de Kruijf has been appointed as an assistant professor in Child Law at the Department of Child Law and Health Law since 1 July 2023. She coordinates the Master's programme in Child Law and teaches a Course on Children’s Rights and a Course on Youth Law Practice. She is a Research Fellow at the research programme 'Effective protection of fundamental rights in a pluralistic world'. Previously, she worked as a family and youth law lawyer and mediator and in that capacity she was involved in many interesting childeren's rights cases. She also worked as a legal advisor in a legislative project on child protection at the Ministry of Security and Justice. In 2019, she obtained her PhD with a legal study on the legitimacy and legal safeguards in closed placements of children (Leiden University). She received a research grant for a study into the children’s right to freedom of religion (Starters grant, Dutch Ministry of Education).
