My main fundamental research interest is computational network science. I focus on methods and algorithms for knowledge discovery from (social) network data. Through various projects, I also work on real-world applications, e.g., corporate networks, networks in economics, finance, science, infrastructure and online media. I supervise bachelor, master and PhD students, and teach courses on data science, competitive programming and social network analysis. Besides this, I am director of education of the LIACS bachelor programmes Informatica en Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and member of the LIACS management team.
