Bart van Hoek, M.D., Ph.D. is Gastroenterologist –Hepatologist and Professor of Hepatology at Leiden University and Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, The Netherlands. He is Medical Director of the Liver Transplant program -which he co-founded-and of the Hepatology Unit of the Dept. of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Currently he chairs the joint meetings of the three Dutch liver transplant centers and is the representative for the Netherlands in the European Liver and Intestinal Advisory Committee (ELIAC) of Eurotransplant.

Hepatology

The chair on Gastroenterology and  Hepatology, especially Hepatology especially concerns Liver Disease and Liver Transplantation.
Current lines of research are auto-immune liver diseases (auto-immune hepatitis, PSC, PBC and overlap syndromes), alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, liver failure, complications of cirrhosis, fibrogenesis and fibrosis and influence of stem cells, and all aspects of liver transplantation -with an accent on immunosuppression, infections, ischemia-reperfusion injury and bileduct complications. Research includes extrahepatic manifestations of liver disease (NWA).
