Alberto Pereira Arias

Alberto M. Pereira (1966) is professor of Medicine, and holds the chair of Endocrinology at the Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. In 2012, he founded the Center for Endocrine Tumors Leiden, a reference center based on multidisciplinary, patient-centered care, and research. Prof. Pereira is presently President-elect of the European Neuro-Endocrine Association (ENEA), and Chair of the Dutch National Pituitary Network. In dec 2016, we was appointed as the first coordinator of the newly established European reference Network for Rare Endocrine conditions (Endo-ERN, www.endo-ern.eu ). His research focuses on the long-term consequences of pituitary disease, and in specific, on the effects of stress hormones on cardiovascular and neuropsychological outcome. He has been actively involved in many international collaborative studies and initiated many clinical studies on the long-term effects of Growth hormone replacement in adult GHD, treatment of Cushing’s disease, and Acromegaly (The Leiden Cohort). He has supervised 14 PhD theses and has published approx. 250 original papers, invited reviews, and book chapters.
The title of his inaugural lecture was 'De zorg om stress'.
