Research project
Hominin FoodWays
This project explores how changes in diet helped early Hominins expand from Africa into the colder and more seasonal environments of Europe.
By studying plant foods, fungi, algae, and early food-processing techniques (cooking and fermentation), this research focuses on how our ancestors adapted to new climates and landscapes. Combining archaeological evidence, nutritional analysis, and computer modelling, the project aims to understand how food strategies shaped one of the earliest major migrations in human evolution. This project connects the deep past with the present via informing modern debates about food systems, resilience and environmental change.
