Louis Honée winner at European Universities Debating Championship

Louis Honée, a student assistant for the Thorbecke chair and the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law, is one of the new European Universities Debating Champions. Together with his team partner, he beat around 150 teams in the English as a Second Language category.

The European Universities Debating Championships (EUDC) uses the British parliamentary debate format, where teams are given the case just 15 minutes before the  start of the debate. Due to the corona measures, the tournament was held online for the first time in its history. Louis is now a student on the Staats- en Bestuursrecht master’s programme at Leiden University.

And there was even more success for Leiden: the tournament that preceded Louis’ success in the final rounds comprised nine preliminary rounds. Roel Becker, an education and research staff member, also for the Thorbecke chair, achieved the best performance ever by a Dutch team, finishing second in the preliminary rounds.
