Bachelor
In the second semester the Institute teaches an introductory course on Aerospace Law at BA level. The course deals with multilateral and bilateral aviation agreements, airline liability, EC air law and criminal air law as well as space law including the legal status of the moon, its natural resources, and the international space station. The course in Aerospace Law (air and space law) has a course load of 5 ECTS. Lecturer is Professor Truxal.
The course is open to all students with a basic knowledge of international law and, as the course is taught in English, requires a sufficient level of understanding of this language. Students with a non-law background will be required to do some additional reading and a short interview will be held with the lecturer in order to establish the required basic knowledge of law. They are requested to contact the student assistant on this matter.
Air and Space Law (Master of Laws Advanced Studies)
The Master of Laws Advanced Studies Programme in Air and Space Law provides an international and European perspective on Public Air Law, Private Air Law and Space Law. It is one of only a few programmes in the world offering this kind of specialisation, and is embedded Leiden Law School’s renowned International Institute for Air and Space Law.
For Whom?
The programme is specifically designed for graduates and legal practitioners pursuing careers in law firms or in consulting firms engaged in aviation and Space Law practice; legal departments of airports and airlines; aerospace companies; civil aviation authorities or ministry of transportation authorities; international, regional and national organisations. Both a full-time and distance learning version of the programme are offered.
Focus of the programme
The Advanced LLM programme in Air and Space Law is a combination of public air law, private air law and space law, both from an international and European perspective. The programme, which has been running since September 2000 and which was internationally accredited in 2007, is unique in the world. It has a clearly defined European dimension and, besides the academic aspects, pays specific attention to professional applications, particularly through its internship requirements. A blended learning version of the programme is also offered.
