Astronomy and Education (MSc)

Programme structure

The Astronomy and Education specialisation enables you to connect your scientific experience in astronomy with the theory and practice of teaching in the classroom.

Programme outline

The entire MSc programme in combination with the Education specialisation consists of two components:

  • Astronomy component (60 EC)
  • Education (60 EC)

The astronomy component contains a Master’s Research Project in one of the research groups of the Leiden Observatory, concluded by a Master's Thesis and an oral presentation, as well as a selection of Astronomy and non-Astronomy courses. The Education component of the specialisation is offered by the Leiden Graduate School of Education (ICLON) and includes courses on didactics and adolescent psychology and an educational research project and school practice. In addition, you can also participate in the World Teachers Programme to prepare for bilingual and international teaching.
