The Van Vollenhoven Institute is looking for a student assistant to support its administrative staff, in particular with external communication. This position offers an opportunity for a student to gain practical, involved experience while contributing to VVI’s smooth operation. 

Tasks include:
Communication Assistance

  • Assisting in managing the department’s social media, including posting updates and engaging with followers.
  • Creating visually appealing graphics and promotional materials for departmental events and initiatives.
    Engagement (newsletters)
  • Collaborating with other team members in drafting and editing newsletter content.
  • Enhancing the layout of newsletters.

Social Media Support

  • Monitoring social media channels and engaging with our LinkedIn
  • Helping track and report on social media analytics.

Event Support   

  • Assisting the Events Manager with the logistics and promotion of departmental events, both online and offline.

Meeting Support

  • Take notes at staff meetings.

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications: 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in Dutch and English.
  • Comfortable writing in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Creative thinker with fresh ideas for content and communication strategies.
  • An interest in education and innovation!
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Leiden University.
  • Available for two days per week.

The department
General information about VVI: the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance and Society (VVI) is part of the Faculty of Law. The VVI aims to develop and disseminate social scientific knowledge and theories relating to the interaction between law, governance and society. In particular, the Institute studies the origins, functioning and development of legal institutions. The VVI combines top-down and bottom-up approaches, studying the perspectives of state actors, citizens and other non-state actors.

With over 6,500 students and 700 staff members, the Faculty of Law is one of the largest faculties in the Netherlands, yet despite its diversity, it is characterized by its small scale. Terms and conditions
Hiring takes place through the employment agency JobMotion. We offer this position initially for 6 months for 2 days per week with the option to extend the contract in case of mutual desire and need. The salary is based on your student status, BA, or Master in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. For this position you have to work in the office. Starting date is as soon as possible.
