Sarah E. C. Smith is Project Manager at the department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology. She is currently managing two research projects: ‘Social Work and the Art of Crafting Resilient Societies’ (NWA) and ‘Prototyping Welfare in Europe: Experiments in State and Society’ (Vici), initiated by Associate Professor Anouk de Koning.

Sarah has a background in communications management with a focus on social and environmental issues, human rights, and the arts. For eight years, she led the communications department at the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development (2013-2020). In 2021, she promoted organic vegetable gardening with De Makkelijke Moestuin. She has also worked as a freelance editor and communications services professional. 

Fun fact

Sarah is an active board member and volunteer coordinator for the community garden I Can Change the World with My Two Hands in Amsterdam. 



Sarah holds a Master’s degree in Theater Studies (University of Amsterdam, 2011) and a Bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology and Theater (Bard College, 2009).
