Prof. dr. Bernhard Hommel studeerde psychologie en literatuurwetenschap aan de Universiteit van Bielefeld (MA en PhD (1990)). Daarna was hij werkzaam bij het Max-Planck Institute for Psychological Research in München (Habilitation aan de Universiteit van München (1997)). Hij is de medeoprichter en lid van het Leiden Institute for Brain & Cognition (LIBC).
Onderzoek
Zijn onderzoek richt zich op cognitieve, computationele, neurale en neurochemische mechanismes van menselijke aandacht en actie controle, en de rol van het bewustzijn hierin. In recent werk houdt hij zich ook bezig met de rol van emotie, creativiteit en religie in menselijke kennis en cognitieve robotica.
