Rosanneke Emmen is a postdoc in the research cluster societal challenges (LUC) and investigates the parenting origins of ethnic prejudice in diverse ethnic groups.

Rosanneke Emmen obtained her PhD at the institute of Education and Child studies, Leiden University, in 2014. Her PhD research focused on predictors and consequences of parenting in Turkish migrant families. After obtaining her PhD, she started working as a postdoc in an international longitudinal study investigating the transition to parenthood among first-time fathers and mothers. Currently, Rosanneke is a postdoc in the research cluster societal challenges (LUC) and investigates the parenting origins of ethnic prejudice in diverse ethnic groups.

Research Projects

  • Parenting origins of ethnic prejudice in three ethnic groups in the Netherlands. Co-supervisor of 4 PhD-candidates: Ymke de Bruijn, Daudi van Veen, Fadime Pektas, and Yiran Yang (all ongoing).
  • Risky beginnings; This study examines trajectories from maternal and paternal characteristics from before the birth of a child to the quality of parent-child interactions in early life in relation to child cognitive development in toddlerhood. Co-supervisor of 3 PhD-candidates: Marjolein Branger (ongoing), Mi-lan Woudstra (ongoing), Wei Li (graduated 2021).
  • Maternal beliefs about sensitivity and maltreatment across the globe. In this project we collaborated with research teams from many countries across the globe to investigate differences and similarities in mothers’ beliefs about sensitive parenting and maltreatment in early childhood. Participating countries include, among others, Chile, China, Israel, Turkey, USA, and Zambia.
  • SIMCUR: Social Integration of Migrant Children: Uncovering Family and School Factors Promoting Resilience. The aim of the project is to uncover the processes underlying developmental resilience in children from Turkish migrant families during the transitions to primary and secondary education in three European countries: The Netherlands, Norway, and Germany.
