Nina van Capelleveen obtained a bachelor's degree in Law (cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam. After the bachelor, she followed the master’s programme in Child Law at Leiden University, which she completed in August 2019 (cum laude).

During her master's degree, Nina worked as a student-assistant at the Child Law department and she did a research internship at Jeugdbescherming Regio Amsterdam. After this internship, Nina worked as a trainee lawyer at Jeugdbescherming Regio Amsterdam. Nina also participated in the Pre-PhD Programme and wrote various publications during her master's degree.

Nina has obtained a Meijers PhD position for her PhD research. Her research concerns the legal aspects with regard to preventing and tackling radicalization of children. In her research, she focuses on the various legal instruments – based on child protection law, criminal law and administrative law – that can be employed in this context and she examines to what extent the development of the child and public safety are protected, while respecting the fundamental rights of the child. In the research, traditional legal research methods and empirical legal research methods are combined.
