More information about Niki Antypa

Niki Antypa is an Associate Professor at the unit of Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology. In her research, Antypa focuses on the chronobiology of depression and suicide.

Research on biological clock and depression

Antypa is particularly interested in how the internal biological clock (chronotype) interacts with other psychological and environmental influences and subsequently influences people’s vulnerability to depression and suicide.

Depression is a complex disorder with multiple potential causes. Through understanding the role of the biological clock, Antypa hopes to provide insights into the factors that contribute to the development or maintenance of depressive states. She also investigates interventions (e.g. light therapy, e-health) that help promote a healthier functioning of the clock and improve sleep, in different populations including depressed patients, students, and other. Depending on the population studied, these interventions aim to prevent disease or improve treatment.
