More information about Martijn Mos

Martijn Mos is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Institute of Political Science. His research explores the contestation of international norms, with a specific focus on LGBTI rights and national minority rights within the European Union.

In addition to publishing parts of his doctoral dissertation, which is entitled ‘Normative Ties That Bind? Contesting National and Sexual Minority Rights in a Post-Enlargement Europe,’ Martijn is currently working on three main topics: 1) The organised resistance of the Christian Right to LGBT rights and sexual and reproductive health and rights at the institutions of the European Union; 2) The role of agency in contemporary applications of the standard of civilisation; and 3) The politicisation of linguistic diversity in the European Parliament.

Martijn holds a PhD and MA in Government from Cornell University, an MPhil in European Politics and Society from the University of Oxford, and an MA in Global Studies from the University of Vienna. He was also a visiting fellow with the Berlin Social Science Research Center (WZB) and an instructor with the Council on International Educational Exchange in Amsterdam.
