Marc Molendijk (1974) completed his Bachelors in 2006. He completed a Research Master and a Clinical Psychology Master in 2008. During his Masters he studied, together with Professor Philip Spinhoven and Dr Arnold van Emmerik ( Leiden University), the word use of patients with a personality disorder.
In 2008 he started as a PhD student at Leiden University. Under the guidance of Bernet Elzinga, Brenda Penninx and Philip Spinhoven he studied the neurobiology of depression and anxiety and he did so by focusing (mainly) on the role of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF ) protein levels and BDNF genotype. June 2014 he received his PhD ( cum laude).
His current interests includes the neurobiology of depression and the relation between mental health, ageing and chronic illness. Part of 2015 and 2016 Marc has spent as visiting scholar at the University of Navarra (Spain) where he started studying the association between dietary habits and mental health.
