Maarten van Buuren
Since September 2013, Maarten van Buuren has been a part-time lecturer in corporate and company law with the Company Law Department, Institute for Private Law. He has over 20 years of experience as a business lawyer, and is a partner at the firm of ‘WLP-Law’ in Amsterdam.
Maarten van Buuren is a corporate and commercial law specialist. He is a part-time lecturer in corporate and company law at Leiden University, Private Law Institute, Company Law Department, and a partner in the law firm of “WLP-Law” in Amsterdam. WLP-Law is a boutique firm, specialized in business law. Maarten has over 20 years of legal experience as a lawyer, and is a business adviser and litigation practitioner.
Since 1993 Maarten has been working in the area of corporate and company law. He has been a lawyer and legal advisor for mostly Netherlands’ based national and international public and private companies, many mid-market or family owned, and for institutions and investment funds. Maarten has worked as a lawyer in a number of industries, including nutrition, fashion, logistics, life sciences, chemical, ICT, health, automotive and retail. He built great expertise in handling larger and complex issues, such as joint ventures, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, liability of directors and shareholders, corporate restructuring, corporate litigation, and commercial contracts.
Maarten’s focus lies on company advice on complex corporate and commercial issues, in particular concerning joint ventures, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, and corporate litigation.
Before his present positions, Maarten joined EY in 1993 as a corporate law advisor. From 1995 up to and until 1997 Maarten was an attorney with the law firm of Lexwell, based on St. Maarten (Dutch Caribbean). In 1998 Maarten returned to the Netherlands as an attorney to assist in the formation of ‘Holland Van Gijzen’, an EY related now top-10 law firm. From 2002 till 2013 Maarten joined a midsize law firm in The Hague and Leiden (DeClercq), to set up its corporate and business law group. Maarten was a partner in that firm, and in 2010 and 2011 managing partner. In 2013 he joined WLP-Law.
