Maaike Lycklama has been connected to the Company Law Department, Institute for Private Law since September 2012 as an assistant professor Finance & Accountancy at Leiden University. Prior thereto (from September 2000), she worked as an assistant professor for the section Business Studies.
Education and biographical sketch
Maaike Lycklama studied Financial Economics at VU University Amsterdam and obtained her masters degree in 1994. During her study she served as assistant for the department of finance of VU University. In 1994, she started as assistant researcher at the equity research department of investment bank MeesPierson. She combined this function with a lecturer position at VU University. From 1995 to 2000 she worked as an assistant professor for Utrecht University. Here she obtained a designation in lecturing. In 2000, Maaike Lycklama started working for the Center of Business Studies of Leiden University.
She was involved in university-wide developing, disseminating, and lecturing courses in business studies. Here she awarded her Ph.D.-degree in May 2010 on defending her thesis ‘Goodwill and value creation of acquisitions’. Her research was about gaining an insight into the information content of purchased goodwill with regard to the value creation of the acquisition for the business combination. goodwill as a measure of value creaton. Her research was confined to mergers and acquisitions between US publicly quoted companies, to which US GAAP apply. Some imprtant changes that took place in the accounting regime gave rise to the research. In 2011, Maaike Lycklama was appointed interim-head of the department of Business Studies. As of September 2012 she moved from the department of Business Studies to the department of Business Law. In 2012-2013, Maaike Lycklama joined the educational leadership program (provided by Utrecht University).
Research interest
Maaike Lycklama is interested in conducting research on Mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, soft controls and alternative finance.
Education
Maaike Lycklama is associated with the following courses within the Institute for Private law: Introduction course International Business Law (bachelor), master programme Company Law (master) and Finance for Lawyers (postgraduate programme). Furthermore, she is the co-coordinator of International Business Law (bachelor).
Other activities
Since September 2012, Maaike Lycklama is professor of applied studies (“lector”) Finance & Business Innovation at the Rotterdam University of Applied Studies (“Hogeschool Rotterdam”). Furthermore, she is head of the course committee Corporate Finance of the bachelor Accountancy at Nyenrode Business University. Maaike Lycklama is member of the supervisory board of Rabobank Leiden-Katwijk.
