Research on training complex skills
Van Ketel is interested in research on learning and performing complex skills. As a trombonist and teacher he is inspired by the needs from the practical field, and as a psychologist convinced of the benefits of a scientific approach.
In his research, he likes to focus on the direct relevance of research for (educational) practice. For example, if a learning strategy or instructional method seems to work, does it really deliver learning benefits, or does it just feel that way? And if such a tactic really does work, what does the teacher or student need to know to deploy it adequately? Can such an adaptation also benefit the learning of other skills?
