Field research on training complex skills
Van Ketel develops field research in the training of complex skills in Higher Education, on the cutting edge of scientific and practical relevance for the context in which his research takes place. As a teacher and musician, he is inspired to do so by needs from the practical field, and as a psychologist he is convinced of the advantages of a scientific approach. His first project was the development, faculty-wide implementation and experimental evaluation of skills-trainings that were especially intended to foster equality of opportunity for first-generation students in the first year of the Bachelor of Law. Other research in his PhD consists of experimental evaluation of instructional formats in R-studio software practicals in the Bachelor of Psychology, in terms of cognitive load, study behavior and other consequences for the learning process.
