As facility manager for the cell observatory Joost makes sure that the microscope facility runs smoothly, trains people in microscope use and helps them with data management and analysis. Besides this he also performs part time research on the development of the multicellular bacterium Streptomyces.

As facility manager for the cell observatory Joost makes sure that the microscope facility runs smoothly, trains people in microscope use and helps them with data management and analysis. Besides this he also performs part time research on the development of the multicellur bacterium Streptomyces.

He started in Leiden after doing his studies and obtaining a PhD in Wageningen, studying chromatin organisation in plant roots by quantitative microscopy. He started in 2006 at the lab of Prof. G. van Wezel where he has implemented several quantitative microscopy techniques for studying the cell division in Streptomyces coelicolor. He has a broad microscopic interest ranging from electron microscopy to light microscopy. 

In addition he is helps with quantitative microscopy by developping image analysis scripts for FIJI/ImageJ
