Research
My research focuses on methods to stimulate quality development in mental health care. An important element is Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) to support treatment in mental health care. ROM routinely monitors the patient's condition during the course of treatment with self-report questionnaires or rating scales. Feedback of ROM data grants more control to the patient over the treatment. Decisions about choosing the most appropriate treatment and upscaling, scaling down, changing or termination of treatment are made conjointly with the therapist. This will increase the patient's confidence in decision making and the treatment. My main research topics are (1) how we can improve the efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of mental health care with ROM and (2) how aggregated ROM data can support the best quality policy. Secondary questions concern the development of new measurement instruments and alternative ways to obtain data on how patients fare during treatment.
