Carina van Os is a PhD Candidate in European Law. Her research explores the compatibility of the EU economic response to the eurozone crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic with the principle of conferral.

Carina van Os is a PhD Candidate in European Law. Her research explores the compatibility of the EU economic response to the eurozone crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic with the principle of conferral. According to this fundamental principle, the Union may only act when competences have been conferred to it by the Member States. As a PhD Candidate, Carina attended the Academy of European Law Summer School at the European University Institute (Florence).

Education

She studied Law (2020; cum laude) and International Studies with a specialisation in European studies and French (2021; cum laude) at Leiden University. She subsequently obtained an LL.M. in European Law (2022; cum laude) at the same institution. During her studies, she worked as a student assistant and tutor at the Department of European Law of Leiden Law School and as an intern at a law firm in Amsterdam. In addition, she won the Migration Case Note Contest in 2020, and participated in the Pre-PhD Programme of the Graduate School of Legal Studies of Leiden University and the European Law Moot Court.

Additional and educational activities

Carina is a member of the editorial board of Christen Democratische Verkenningen. She instructs various courses in European law at bachelor’s and master’s level.
