Barbora holds law degrees from Humboldt University in Berlin and Leiden University. As a Meijers PhD grant holder, she was awarded her doctorate by Leiden University in 2025. In her thesis, she focused on the European Central Bank’s (ECB) mandate to apply national (banking) law within the framework of the first pillar of the Banking Union: the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). She identified a number of specific challenges posed by the ECB’s application of national law and examined its mandate for compliance with several rule of law principles, including conferral, the legality of administration and effective judicial protection.
In addition to her research on the supervisory mandate of the ECB, Barbora has a general interest in law and governance in the European Banking Union. She regularly contributes op-eds and analyses on her research to EU Law Live.
Between June and December 2021, Barbora worked as a trainee at the Directorate General Legal Services, Supervisory Law Division of the ECB in Frankfurt. From 2021 until 2025, she was a member of the Young Researchers Group of the European Banking Institute.
Since 2022, Barbora has been appointed as Project Manager of the NWO Vidi grant project led by Dr Vasiliki Kosta The EU fundamental right to ‘freedom of the arts and sciences’: exploring the limits on the commercialisation of academia (AFITE).
Between February and July 2025, Barbora acted as Managing Editor of Common Market Law Review.
Barbora teaches in various Bachelor’s and Master’s courses and supervises Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis students. Since 2024, Barbora has been working on the implementation of the Smarter Academic Year pilot project and since September 2025, she has been the academic coordinator of the European Law LLM programme.
