Anna Smulders is a PhD Candidate in Disinformation and International Law at Leiden University, where she has been conducting research since 2021. She specializes in the intersection of public international law, international governance, and information technology, with particular focus on the legal frameworks governing disinformation in the digital age.

Anna holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Public International Law from Leiden University, which she completed cum laude. Her academic career has been distinguished by research positions at the University of Edinburgh Law School and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies in Florence. Previously, she completed a visiting fellowship at Yale Law School’s Information Society Project, where she further developed her expertise in information governance and digital policy. Her scholarly contributions address the evolving challenges of information warfare and the implications for democratic institutions, and international peace and stability.
