The starting point of our activities is a social science perspective that emphasizes empirical research— including but not limited to ethnography—and comparison. We discuss current debates in our field, focusing on concepts, methods and problems, and how these can be brought to bear on the study of religion and area studies. Our activities include lunch meetings in which network members present their research, lectures by international scholar for a broader audience consisting of staff and PhD candidates, and masterclasses for PhD candidates.
