Luuk van Middelaar holds Cleveringa Lecture in Prague
On 5 December, the second edition of the Prague Cleveringa Lecture took place. Hosted by Charles University Rector Milena Králíčková in the Karolinum's Hall of Patriots, in one of the oldest academic buildings of Central Europe, the lecture was organised by the Embassy of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Vaclav Havel Library. The main lecture was given by Leiden University's Luuk van Middelaar, who managed to match past, present, and the legacies of Rudolph Cleveringa and Václav Havel to the transformation of Europe after the 'Zeitenwende'.
After the lecture, Prof. Van Middelaar engaged in a discussion with Michael Žantovský (Director of the Vaclav Havel Library), and the audience. Among the members of the audience were alumni of Leiden and other Dutch universities, Prague professors and students as well as representatives from the Czech government and Czech media, and Ambassadors from EU Member States.
