PAO course on recent developments in subsidy law

On Tuesday 11 October, Demy Jongkind, Louise Verboeket and Veerle van Waarde gave a post-academic course (PAO) at the NetlawAcademy of Netlaw law firms dealing with recent developments related to subsidy law.

In the course, Demy, Louise and Veerle considered various topics that are relevant in relation to law and regulations on subsidies. Topics included the definition of a subsidy, the ‘new style’ subsidy, and the requirement of a statutory basis for awarding a subsidy. They then looked at the process to award a subsidy, paying attention to limited subsidies. Finally, the termination of subsidy relationships was the focus, which included a discussion of the (proportionality of) subsidy sanctions and the exceptive review of subsidy regulations.

It was a successful afternoon that Demy, Veerle and Louise look back on with much pleasure. Many interesting questions were also raised by the participants.

Demy Jongkind is a PhD candidate at the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law and is writing a dissertation on network subsidies.
