New Summer School |The European Union, the United Nations and Global Governance

The Summer School ‘The European Union, the United Nations and Global Governance’ is open to Master-level and PhD students. It is supported by the European Union’s Jean Monnet program.

The Summer School will focus on a range of topics relevant to interactions between the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) and the EU’s role within current patterns of global governance. It will include lectures by eminent scholars in European Integration, International Organization and Global Governance. Among the themes covered are the EU and interactions with the UN, the EU and global security governance, the EU and multilateralism, challenges to global climate governance, migration and the EU and global economic, fiscal and tax governance. The Summer School will consist of lectures, seminars, short presentations by the participating students, a simulation game and a visit to EU institutions in Brussels (all offered live if circumstances allow for this, with ‘remote’ as a backup option). Participants are selected based on academic performance and motivation to attend the Summer School.

Costs for the Summer School are Euro 1500 (this includes the lectures and activities, a welcome dinner and the transfer to EU institutions in Brussels). Students are responsible for their own housing arrangements, but with assistance from our organizers. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, but the final deadline for applications is 16 April 2021, 23:59.

Two partial scholarships of Euro 750 will be made available based on merit and need, with support by the Jean Monnet program. Students who would like to be considered for a partial scholarship must state this clearly in their motivation letter. The application deadline for these candidates is 16 March 2021 (with candidates being notified about the decision by 5 April 2021).
