Rijpma at ICMPD Webinar “Protecting the Right to Protection in times of COVID-19”

On 22 June the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) organised a webinar on the challenges that have arisen for asylum seekers and refugees worldwide as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

The webinar was organised in the framework of the EU funded ENIGMMA2 Project (Sustaining Migration in Georgia) on the occasion of World Refugee Day (20 June). The webinar was introduced by the UNHCR representative in Georgia. Jorrit Rijpma (Leiden Law School) and Galina Cornelisse (Free University Amsterdam) were the main speakers. They addressed the likely short and medium term consequences of the COVID-19 crisis ranging from closed borders to a lack of sanitary conditions in reception centres, as well as the expected backlash on refugee communities.
