Peter Hustinx, former European Data Protection Supervisor, opens the European Law master

On 10 September the students of the European Law Master gathered in the Lorentzzaal for the festive opening of their programme.

After a word of welcome by Prof. Van den Bogaert, the prizes for the best paper of the Bachelor elective "Europe in Practice" and the best master thesis in European law of the year 2014/2015 were handed out.

Jacob van Beeten received his prize for best paper out of the hands of Sjoerd Gosses, former ambassador of the Netherlands in Turkey and driving force behind the course. There was a special mention for Benjamin Bouwer whose essay was published in the "Tijdschrift voor het Economisch Onderwijs".

Fabrina Sturba was handed her award for best thesis by her thesis supervisor Pieter Van Cleynenbreugel. She was praised for her sound legal research and clear writing style.

 

After this the master was officially opened with a lecture by former European Data Protection Supervisor Peter Hustinx. His captivating lecture on the development of a new framework for data protection in Europe, touched upon various questions of European law.

The afternoon was concluded with drinks in the Faculty Restaurant.
