This book launch marks the publication of United States and Chinese Foreign Assistance and Diplomacy: Aid for Dominance (Manchester University Press, 2026), coauthored by Salvador Santino Regilme and Obert Hodzi. The book offers a timely and original account of foreign aid as a central arena of diplomacy, political influence, and geopolitical competition.
Focusing on United States and Chinese engagement in the Global South, the book shows how foreign assistance shapes not only development outcomes, but also broader struggles over legitimacy, power, and international order. Combining theoretical depth with rich empirical research, it speaks to scholars, students, and practitioners interested in global politics and development.
The event will open with a brief introduction by the authors, followed by commentaries from invited expert panelists. The second half of the session will be reserved for plenary discussion with the audience.
