Thirty years ago, pioneers of the internet expected that this new technology would be a force for freedom, democracy, justice and peace. Yet today digital communications often involve human rights abuses, criminal activity, disinformation, gender-based violence, and cyber warfare. How can we turn these tides and make online spaces serve a just peace?

Meet the Panel
Alessandra Jabłonowska, Girls in Quantum Ambassador
- Alessandra Jabłonowska is a quantum computing researcher and science communicator. She has led national and international initiatives—from co-developing Poland’s quantum curriculum to organizing CERN’s teacher training program and hosting the global “Ask a Quantum Scientist” series.
Cristina Del-Real, Leiden University

Cristina Del-Real is an Assistant Professor in Cyber Crisis at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) at Leiden University. Previously she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in cybersecurity governance at ISGA. She is part of the NWO-funded project 'Cyber Security by Integrated Design' (C-SIDe).
Tatiana Tropina, Internet Society (ISOC)
- Tatiana Tropina in Senior Advisor for Institutional Relations at ISOC, where she advocates for an open, secure, and trustworthy Internet, focusing on leading international and regional organizations. She has worked in cybersecurity policy for more than 15 years.
Moderator: Jan Aart Scholte, Leiden University
- Jan Aart Scholte is Professor of Global Transformations and Governance Challenges at Leiden University, with a split appointment between the Institute of Political Science and the Institute of Security and Global Affairs. Also principal coordinator of the Just Peace Dialogues.

The Just Peace Dialogues are a set of meetings for public deliberation of key aspects of building peace in today’s world. The dialogues are held from 16 to 22 of June and address each of the festival’s six main themes. The aim is stimulate creative discussion about conditions for a just peace in contemporary society.
The dialogues are:
- Imagining Peace (16 June 2025 16:00 - 19:00);
- Peace in Europe (17 June 2025 16:00 - 19:00);
- Peace in Sudan (18 June 2025 16:00 - 19:00);
- Peace in Israel-Palestine (19 June 16:00 - 19:00);
- Democracy and Peace (20 June 2025 16:00 - 19:00);
- Cybersecurity and Peace (21 June 14:00 - 17:15);
- Climate and Peace (22 June 14:00 - 17:15).
