'I have always been very interested in the past, but during high school I noticed that I really liked the science subjects. For my study choice I therefore wanted to try to combine history and the natural sciences. It quickly became apparent that that is really only possible with archaeology.'

'I chose archaeology because of my interest in the past and ancient cultures and because the study is a combination of theory and practice. I don't just have to peer into books, but I also work directly with archaeological artifacts. Also super fun is the prospect that you are going to do field work.'

'In the first year, the Archeology bachelor is very broad and you learn a lot: from bones to animal remains and pottery. That proves to be very useful, because in my job as an archaeologist on St. Eustatius I can find everything. In addition, the method and technical lectures are of course very relevant. I found it very pleasant that you were encouraged by the programme not to take over everything without thinking, but to formulate your own points of view. That way you learn to be critical and to develop your own interests.'
