Research
Veronica Tamorri is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the
Laboratory for Human Osteoarchaeology, Faculty of Archaeology.
Veronica's project - WOmen-PRO - combines bioarchaeological methods and archaeothanatology to investigate the life histories and burial rituals of female individuals in the Nile Valley during the 4th-3rd millennium BC transition to complex society. With this project, she aims to offer the first female-centred perspective on pre-pharaonic society while providing new insights into the development of gender roles, norms, and dynamics in the region.
More broadly, Veronica is interested to see how the rise of centralised forms of power and increased inequality impacted the health, physical activity levels, nutrition, and burial rituals of non-elite/low-class individuals in pre-state societies.
Teaching activities
She contributes to the teaching activities of the Laboratory for Human Osteoarchaeology.
Curriculum vitae
Veronica holds a PhD in Archaeology from Durham University (United Kingdom). For her Doctoral thesis, she employed archaeothanatology to analyse the archaeological documentation of over 3000 Egyptian burials dating to the 4th-3rd millennium BC.
