Tijn van der Velden obtained his BSc and MSc degree in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences from Leiden University (Leiden, The Netherlands). For his master’s degree (cum laude) he pursued a double specialization in Biotherapeutics, and Business studies. During his research internship at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research, (LACDR, Prof. Dr. Joke Bouwstra), he developed hybrid nanoparticulate vaccine delivery systems against Tuberculosis. In a second research internship at the Leiden University Medical Center (Dr. Thom Sharp), he developed a method to study pentraxin mediated complement activation on membrane surfaces. In 2022 he joined the Macromolecular Biochemistry group (Leiden University, The Netherlands), as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lars Jeuken to study the respiratory enzyme cytochrome bd as an antibiotic target against M. tuberculosis. For his project, he uses a range of biochemical and biophysical techniques to examine cytochrome bd and screen for novel inhibitors.
