Overview

Theo has studied Musicology (specialisation: Music Cognition) in Greece and Music Therapy in Edinburgh, UK and the Netherlands. He currently works as a music therapist at the stroke-unit of the rehabilitation centre and nursing home Leo Polak in Amsterdam. The training on Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) has inspired him to look into the effects of music on brain structures that are linked with emotions, as well as motor functions.

PhD project

This PhD project, partially funded by his employer, charity care provider Amstelring, is focusing on the effects of neuroscience-informed music therapy on motivation during treatment of upper-limb and cognitive functions in the subacute and chronic phase after stroke. The project is supervised by A.W.M. Evers and R. Schaefer (Health, Medical and Neuropsychology, Leiden University, NL), as well as W. Magee (Temple University, USA).
