Name
S.M. Pekowsky MA

I am a PhD Candidate in the CARECENTURY project, studying the emergence of national identity in 20th century Romania through material objects related to early childcare, such as baby blankets, lullabies, midwifery tools, and toys. My research focuses on gender, reproduction, childhood, and material culture. Prior to this appointment, I received my Master's through the Gender Studies Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Program in Utrecht, The Netherlands and Bologna, Italy, and conducted research on birth and abortion activism in Buenos Aires, Argentina through a Fulbright research grant. With the Crafting Resistance Collective, I also curate events and exhibits linking textiles and activism throughout The Netherlands.
