Ruth Prins has published on the role of Dutch mayors in local safety networks, integrated safety policies in the Netherlands, policing in European metropolises and crisis management structures. In her current research projects, Ruth Prins focuses on mayors tackling various threats to public order, the national police force in the Netherlands, leadership and crisis, administrative approaches to organized crime and agenda setting for public safety governance.

Ruth Prins has a background in Public Administration and is employed as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University, Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs.

Ruth Prins obtained a Master degree in Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2007 (Policy and Politics) and at the VU University Amsterdam in 2008 (Governance of Public Safety). She worked as a PhD Researcher and an Academic Teacher at the department of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2009 to 2013. In 2014 Ruth Prins successfully defended her PhD-thesis titled 'Safety First. How local processes of securitization have affected the position and role of Dutch mayors at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
