In 2014, she successfully defended her dissertation Optic Compliance – Enforcement and Compliance in the Dutch Chemical Industry. The study attracted significant media attention, including television, documentary, radio, and national newspapers. During her doctoral research she has written several publications and organized an international congress in 2012 in the field of environmental crime, environmental pollution and victimization.
Currently, Marieke is involved in a research project applying life-course criminology to white-collar crime, with a specific focus on the development of criminal careers in organizational contexts.
